The Sprint for Hurricane Athletics is Off To An Impressive Start
The Sprint for Hurricane Athletics, a three-year facility, endowment, and annual fund campaign is off to an impressive start. Our Hurricane Club has raised a record $6 million this year to fund Student-Athletic Scholarships. Many former football student-athletes and friends of the program gave an impressive $1 million to the Football Fund.
Our fundraising efforts are underway for completing the renovation projects for Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field, Cobb Stadium, and the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The two projects that will have the greatest impact on the lives of our student-athletes are the new Academic Building and a state-of-the-art Training Room. Both on and off the field, your contributions provide essential funding to develop an environment necessary to nurturing champions.

Enjoy your summer. Thank you for your support of UM Athletics and Go Canes!

1. How and why did you become involved with the University of Miami?
I was a student at UM and graduated with a degree in Business in 1983 - the year of the first National Championship in Football. I've always been a big sports fan and throughout my college years, the football program gained a lot of momentum, culminating in the Championship. I always promised myself that if I could help I would, because I wanted to give back.

2. What does UM Athletics mean to you?
Being part of the University of Miami and the Hurricane Club has been a great experience, not only for me, but now for my kids as well. I see this as a small way of helping. Working with the student-athletes and getting to know them means a lot to me, because I remember being their age and I know it's important to have someone to look up to and bounce ideas off. My priority is to give them a little direction, whether or not they continue their sports career.

3. What is your favorite UM moment?
The first National Championship in 1983, when the 'Canes beat Nebraska, is definitely my favorite moment. We were a huge underdog in that game and I will never forget the feeling of winning the title. The first is the hardest to get, but also the most exciting.
