After
20+ years of launching and coaching improvement teams I have
learned that most of these pitfalls can be avoided by taking
the following steps:
|
1.
|
Select
a problem or process that directly impacts on your organization's
priority goals. This will ensure that the work of the
team is viewed as important, which will help the team
get the support they will need. |
|
2.
|
Prior
to formally launching your team(s) gather and analyze
existing performance data and "map" the current
process to identify process fail points. This approach
shifts the team's focus from analysis to improvement and
will get results faster. To download an example of a process
map click
here. |
|
3.
|
Develop
a team charter that formalizes the purpose and measures
of success of the team. The team charter should specify
who will support the team and which top manager will be
held accountable for the team's success. To download an
example of a team charter click
here. |
|
4.
|
Use
a structured method to guide the work of the team. Defined
outcomes, structured meeting agendas, and correct application
of improvement tools will save time and keep the team
focused on getting the expected results. To download an
outline of our unique "Guide to Performance Improvement"

Making improvement teams successful translates into improved
profitability and customer satisfaction. If your improvement
teams are not getting the results you want please contact
me for a complimentary consultation. We appreciate the opportunity
to be of service.
