Summer vacation is here! If you want to take your dog along for the fun, make sure your destination is pet-friendly, then check out these tips before starting your trip: |
Visit your Vet: You'll need a current health certificate for your dog before leaving home. This certificate is proof that your dog is healthy and up-to-date on vaccinations, and is required for air travel. |
Tags are essential: Make sure your dog has proper identification tags secured to his collar at all times. Purchase a second tag that has your travel contact information and your cell phone number. Pet Supermarket has instant ID tag machines at every location. |
Restrain your pet: Just like humans, pets need to be secured in the car in order to avoid injury. There are many different types of carriers or travel harnesses available to ensure that your dog stays safe. Never leave your pet in a closed up car, even for a short while. Temperatures can become deadly in just a few minutes. |
Need more help? The staff at Pet Supermarket is always available to answer questions, help you complete your travel checklist, and to assist you in choosing the best pet travel necessities for your dog. Enjoy your vacation!

Kitty Chatter |
Although cats prefer a set routine, it is possible for them to travel. And the younger they are, the better they'll adapt. Teach your kitty to ride with these tips: |
Begin slowly: Place your cat in his or her carrier and place it in the car, but don't start it. Talk to kitty, give her a treat, and let her explore this new environment. Repeat this until your cat seems comfortable being in the car. |
Start the engine: Once kitty is used to the car, try driving a short distance. Praise her, and give her treats before and after. Repeat this on several occasions until your cat is no longer afraid of the car. |
Build confidence: Once your cat is accustomed to riding, place her in her carrier and head out for a short trip. Bring kitty's essentials (food, bowls, water, and a toy or treat) and go for a drive. If your cat identifies the car as a pleasant place, traveling with her will be much easier. |
If your cat still becomes distressed while riding, there are many non-prescription products available to keep her calm. Pet Supermarket has everything you need for a road trip with your favorite feline. |

Birdie Bits |
Birds are great pets for many reasons. They make wonderful companions, and with so many breeds to choose from, you're sure to find one that suits your space and budget. Here are some tips to help you decide: |
For the beginner... If you're a first-time bird owner, finches and canaries are great choices. They're low maintenance, and can thrive in a small cage. These birds prefer to be watched and heard instead of handled. |
Want more action? For more interaction with your bird, choose a cockatiel, parakeet, or lovebirds. They're slightly larger, so they need more space. But they also enjoy playing out of the cage, and are often able to learn to talk. |
Get exotic! Cockatoos, African Parrots, Macaws, and Amazons are known for their dazzling colors and amusing antics. Just be aware that these large birds require a long-term commitment, but the investment is well worth it. |
No matter what type of bird you purchase, remember that with any pet comes responsibility. If you need more information to help you decide, the staff at Pet Supermarket is there to help. They can help find the perfect "feathered friend" for you! |
