June 2007 - No. 10

Dear Neighbors:

For the past nine years, Neighbors 4 Neighbors has partnered with the Kids 4 Kids Club to collect and distribute new backpacks filled with school supplies to homeless, farm worker, and other needy children. Last year we delivered our 60,000th backpack! This year we have added Neat Stuff to the partnership and will be supplying new uniforms for children in foster care.

On June 30, 2007, The Bonefish Grill in Coral Gables will host a Back-to-School Fundraiser for our project and we'd love to have you join us. Go to our website www.Neighbors4Neighbors.org for event details. The fundraiser will include an Ocean-themed silent auction.

Little Johnny fights for his life
In 2000, a four-year-old cancer patient named Alexandra "Alex" Scott announced a simple idea -she was holding a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for kids with cancer.
For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands and other fundraising events have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses, and organizations, all to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer. On August 1st, 2004, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8 -- she had raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research in her short lifetime. The foundation encourages anyone and everyone, even your company, club, school, or family to hold a lemonade stand or other event anytime of year. Click here to see just how easy it is!

Make sure to watch, A Stand For Hope: Alex Scott, a half-hour documentary, on CBS4 Saturday, June 16th at 12 noon, produced by CBS3 (KYW-TV-Philadelphia).
This month we have two Good Neighbors: Galleria Mall and Imperial Modeling. Together they helped raise nearly $12,000 for Neighbors 4 Neighbors at this year's McDonald's Air & Sea Show. More...

Neighbors 4 Neighbors is a non-profit organization 501(c) 3, originally created by CBS4 in 1992 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. As South Florida recovered, CBS4 made a commitment to make Neighbors an integral part of its community service program. Using the power of television to reach people who want to help and by forging relationships with important community and business leaders, Neighbors has evolved into a valuable resource for individuals and families in our community facing critical needs.
