and, in the "Find Parking" section, click on
"By Specific Address." Enter your destination
address and MPA will generate a custom, printable map
pinpointing your destination as well as all MPA parking
facilities within the immediate vicinity.
You may also select from a list of popular destinations,
including government buildings, sports/entertainment venues
and shopping/commercial areas to make your search even
easier.
"This new search function is one of several parking
locator options we offer at www.miamiparking.com,"
said MPA Executive Director Art Noriega. "Customers
can also view a list of facilities by neighborhood - for
example, Downtown or the Design District - as well as
by the type of parking they desire, whether it's a garage,
a lot or a residential decal parking area." |
| To
access to the MPA Parking Locator, please click
here or in the image above. |
|
Why seek out an MPA facility? Many customers are not aware that
rates at MPA parking facilities are typically lower than at
privately owned facilities. "Our rates are set by the City
of Miami Commission with an eye toward keeping parking affordable
for both residents and visitors," said Noriega. "And,
our revenues enable us to continually add to the City of Miami
parking inventory by investing in new facilities to meet growing
demand," he added. |

Following
a cocktail reception in the lobby, the audience moved inside
the theater to view a brief video
retrospective of MPA's 50 years of service to Miami. Miami
historian and author Arva Moore Parks, longtime MPA board
member Arthur Hertz and others reminisced fondly about Miami
in the mid-1950s, while Executive Director Art Noriega and
Chairman of the Board Oscar Rivero described MPA's strategies
to address the new challenges of the 21st century. |

To cap the
evening, emcee Dana Paul invited the audience to join in a champagne
toast saluting MPA's past, present and future successes. The
curtain then rose to reveal the Dana Paul Orchestra, which played
a rocking set that drew many guests to the dance floor. Said
Mark A. Trowbridge, Deputy Executive Director for Business Development,
"The anniversary celebration was a great opportunity to
visit with old and new friends, enjoy some great entertainment
and share the good news about MPA's work with the community." |

A. Trowbridge's Viewpoint

events in various neighborhoods throughout the City of Miami.
All of these events have a common denominator: they benefit
from the support of Miami Parking Authority. |
At MPA, we
take our role as corporate citizen very seriously and realize the
important role parking plays in a successful special event. Thus,
we make an extra effort to accommodate community organizations seeking
our assistance. We may offer free or reduced-price parking in designated
areas, clear particular areas by bagging meters to accommodate loading
or staging, contribute other in-kind services, make a cash donation,
or a combination of these. The total annual value of our in-kind
and cash contributions exceeds $250,000.
Beyond the obvious advantages to community organizations, why does
MPA engage in this sort of outreach? Because it makes good business
sense. We believe that one of the best ways to brand MPA, differentiate
ourselves from other parking operators, and educate the public about
our mission is to participate in activities that support the quality
of life in our community.
We view MPA's inventory of more than 22,000 parking spaces as a
community resource and want to maximize its use when feasible. If
you are planning a community event in the City of Miami and wish
to request MPA's support, please review our detailed Event
Sponsorship Guidelines and submit a written request at least
90 days prior to your event.

Allapattah
Parking Facility Takes Shape in Anticipation
of May Grand Opening
Thanks to advanced construction techniques, MPA's new Allapattah
Parking Plaza is on track with its aggressive construction
schedule calling for a May 2006 opening. Aerial
construction photos show how rapidly the structure has
taken shape since work began last fall.
"This is the first of MPA's facilities to employ complete
precast construction technology," said Mark A. Trowbridge,
MPA Deputy Executive Director for Business Development. "Utilizing
precast panels has enabled us to build not only more quickly,
but much more economically." |
|
After site preparation and pouring of the footings, the precast panels
were erected in only five weeks. The panels, fabricated at a plant
in Medley using custom forms of various sizes, were trucked to the
site on flatbed tractor trailers. A crane hoisted each piece into
its designated position. Metal rebar fasteners extending from each
piece fit into slots in the adjoining piece. "It's a lot like
assembling a giant, intricate puzzle," said Trowbridge. Following
assembly, joints will be sealed and the entire structure will be painted.
The design/build team for the Allapattah Parking Plaza is Hershell
Gill Engineers (architects of record) and Florida Lemark Corporation
(contractor). The major constructor is KVC Construction.
Once precast assembly is complete, preparation of the 350-space space
parking facility will begin. Said Trowbridge, "This garage will
also be MPA's first completely automated facility. Customers will
simply note the number of their space and pay at the Pay by Space
machines conveniently located on each floor of the garage. The machines
will accept multiple forms of payment and produce a printed receipt."
Located in the heart of the Allapattah business district adjacent
to Goodwill Industries, the Allapattah Parking Plaza will also address
the growing demand for commercial space in the area with 20,000 square
feet of street-level commercial/office space. For leasing information,
call Jeremy Larkin or Vilma Quintela of NAI Miami, exclusive leasing
agents, at 305-938-4000. |
