Get a Top Job with an Associate's Degree

A two-year associate degree can be your ticket to a high-demand career with a good salary. In fact, some of the fastest growing occupations in the country ask for associate degrees.

With an associate degree, your options are wide open, especially in fields like healthcare and technology. Consider one of these top jobs of the future.

Registered Nurse
Aging baby boomers are increasing demand for healthcare services. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, openings for nurses are expected to grow 22% through 2018. The median wage for the most recent year available (2008) was $62,450.

Engineering Technician
Problem solvers who work with engineers and scientists, engineering technicians assist with experiments, build equipment, help design products and test electronics. The median wage for the most recent year available was $47,163.

Paralegals and Legal Assistants
If you have past administrative or office experience and an interest in the law, consider this occupation. Paralegals help lawyers investigate facts, prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Although competitive, this field offers a broad salary range for assistant-level positions, with top earners making $70,000 or more. The median wage for the most recent year available was $46,120.

Veterinary Technologists and Technicians
A satisfying career for animal lovers, veterinary technologists and technicians help veterinarians care for their animal patients. The median wage for the most recent year available was $28,900.

Physical Therapist Assistants
Work with physical therapists on patient rehabilitation and mobility in this growing field. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 33% growth. The median wage for the most recent year available was $46,140.

Preschool Teachers
They introduce children to reading and writing, vocabulary, math, arts, science, and social studies. Although this job doesn't pay as much as others, it can be a rewarding career if you love children. The median wage for the most recent year available was $23,870. Those with special education training earn more.
