Dear
Fellow Engineers:

Back to Basics
As I prepared my first President's Message for this Society Newsletter, I thought back to some of the great leaders that I have been privileged to work with, and their slogans. We've had "fun" society themes, and motivating society themes, along with the leaders that embodied their philosophies.
That made me think back to what slogan that I feel embodies me, especially at this point in my life. With a host of upcoming concerns such as property tax reform, insurance, and CCNA revisions, as a business owner, my mind is racing with all the possibilities that can occur. |
 |
With that in mind, the 2007-2008 theme of "Back to Basics" hits home for me on a personal and professional basis. When the chips are down, we all need to focus on those important things to get us through, and that's what we'll do this year.
The general plan of action is to concentrate on the basic things that make the Florida Engineering Society great. First off, we need Active Members - not just bodies, but rather, genuinely interested people working for a great cause. Second, we need to focus on the future of our profession, through our contract with the Broward County School Board and our scholarships. Third, we need to provide interesting activities to our members as a benefit - between technical, social, and political events, we need to be the number one choice for professional engineers.
This may sound like a bold charge, but as the year moves on you'll see that it becomes easier and easier when the focus is simply on "The Basics". Here's to a great year! |
