Lytle Creek Greenway Becomes Resource for Wilmington Community
Every great city needs its signature green space, a connection with nature for recreation and inspiration. In New York, Manhattanites head for Central Park to unwind; Hyde Park provides Londoners with manicured gardens; and Boston Gardens serves as a retreat to catch a breath of fresh air.

DHL Lends a Hand with Sister City Celebrations in Riverside
The city of Riverside, Calif., home to DHL's West Coast Distribution Facility, is currently celebrating its 50th Sister City anniversary with Sendai, Japan -- in a really big way.

New Employee Welcome Center Provides Entry Point into DHL Air Park Operations
For customers or business groups taking the night sort tour of the DHL Air Park in Wilmington, Ohio, the experience begins with a visit to the new Employee Welcome Center. The Employee Welcome Center is also the focal point to serve the more than 5,000 employees who enable the Wilmington hub to process hundreds of thousands of letters and parcels every night.

DHL Employees Support Colleague in Time of Need
On December 5th, 2006, DHL Air Park gateway employee Tonya Eades and her family were left homeless as a result of a fire that destroyed their house in Clarksville, Ohio. Eades was at work when the fire broke out, and by the time co-worker Jessica Carmen drove her home, there was nothing that could be saved.

Innovation Center Opening Marks the Launch of the DHL Innovation Initiative
|
|
On Tuesday March 27, journalists, DHL business partners and customers from around the world helped celebrate the launch of the DHL Innovation Center, a new research facility located near Bonn, Germany.
The DHL Innovation Center, a multi-million dollar international research center in Troisdorf near Bonn, was constructed to expand DHL's role as a technology and innovation leader in worldwide logistics. The center showcases advancements in logistics, including developments in RFID, geodata technology for optimizing travel routes and networks, and applications of global positioning satellite technology.
The DHL Innovation Initiative involves the collaboration of DHL's global business partners, including IBM, Intel, Philips and SAP, to promote technical developments in the mail, express and logistics fields, and to fast-track these technologies from concept to implementation.
At the Innovation Center, a global team of specialists will work on developing innovations to enhance the entire logistics chain. The Center houses development and research facilities in a space just over half the size of a football field. It allows visitors to take part in an interactive supply chain experience, encompassing a 1,400-square-yard exhibition area, including functions ranging from ordering and warehousing to delivery and billing.
The Center's research will result in methods to improve the logistics process for businesses around the world. The Center will also function as a think-tank, providing up-to-date information on supply chain innovations. |

|
 |
For nature lovers, hikers and conservationists in Wilmington, Ohio, home to DHL's principal air and ground hub, that municipal green space is Lytle Creek Park, a greenway that traverses the city.
With the support of the Lytle Creek League of Conservators, the local community, Wilmington College and from DHL, the Lytle Creek Greenway Trailhead Pavilion was established as the cornerstone of a 56-acre park for Wilmington area nature lovers to enjoy.
DHL contributed building resources and funds to help construct the 30-foot by 52-foot pavilion. The trailhead marks the headwaters of the second tributary of Lytle Creek, which meanders through Wilmington and into Todds Fork, a major tributary of the Little Miami River, a National Scenic Waterway.
DHL embraces Wilmington's efforts to expand its recreational resources and supports the development of Lytle Creek Park as an important part of the city's appeal and charm. |

DHL Lends a Hand with Sister City Celebrations in Riverside
|
 |
The city of Riverside, Calif., home to DHL's West Coast Distribution Facility, is currently celebrating its 50th Sister City anniversary with Sendai, Japan -- in a really big way.
As part of the festivities, true giants of professional athletes, Japan's famed sumo wrestlers, competed in Riverside for the first time ever earlier in March. Additional cultural activities included performances by Awaodori dancers, Origami classes for children and a martial arts exhibit.
Later this year, DHL will transport a special gift from Riverside to the City of Sendai. This gift is described by Riverside city officials as the Giant Orange, an immense orange-shaped ceramic sculpture designed by a local Riverside artist. The sculpture tips the scales at roughly seven hundred pounds, equivalent to the weight of two well-proportioned Sumo wrestlers. Oranges are an established symbol for the City of Riverside, which was established as a major orange growing community. In 2006, 32 of the sculptures were stationed throughout Riverside as part of the City's Giant Orange Artventure program, established in coordination with the Riverside Arts Museum.
Sister Cities International is a non-profit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between U.S. and international communities. The organization strives to build global cooperation at the municipal level, promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.
Riverside's Sister City relationship with Sendai is one of the longest standing programs in the U.S.
As part of its contribution to local Sister City activities, DHL will coordinate the 6,000-mile shipment of the Giant Orange sculpture to Sendai. A special crate will be designed to accommodate the dimensions of the artwork. The planned route for the journey to Sendai takes the sculpture from Riverside to Anchorage, Alaska, then onto Tokyo. From there it will travel by ground by DHL Japan until it reaches its destination in Sendai. |

DHL recently opened the 10,000-sq.-ft. facility to provide additional onsite resources for night-sort employees (who usually work from 11:30 p.m. to the early morning hours) to dine and make financial transactions at work.
The Welcome Center restaurants offer extended menu options, and new automatic teller machines allow for financial transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There is also dedicated phone number for employees to call ahead when ordering meals. Employees can call and place an order at least 20 minutes ahead of the desired pick-up time for food to be ready to go when they arrive at the counter. Dedicated parking spaces outside the Employee Welcome Center are reserved for food pick-up. |

Supervisor Tom Fuson, Senior Import Manager Steve Crowthers and the rest of Eades' co-workers jumped into action. They organized the rest of the DHL Air Park gateway and Cincinnati employees, and began taking up collections of money, clothing and personal items to help the family replace some of the things they had lost in the fire.
Employees also organized a hot dog fundraiser and silent auction to support the fundraiser. In addition, with Christmas rapidly approaching, employees supported Eades and her family by generously giving gifts. Eades was also able to seek assistance from the local American Red Cross offices, an organization DHL is actively engaged in supporting.
