Communication Is Changing. What's Next?
It is said that the era of internet infrastructure is over. The
groundwork, cables, domain names, servers, search engines, repeaters
and satellites are in place.
Having a website and an internet connection is not the next level
anymore; they are given tools of communications for any company
- and when I say given I mean that your prospects and clients expect
them to be in place. Just like your business cards and stationeries.
This being so, I ask myself what's next? And this is what I see.
|
Seamless
communications between clients and companies. |
|
One-touch
connection to product and service providers. |
|
Companies
open to communicate with clients any way the clients
desire; using any tool the clients wish or have immediate
access to - and at any time the customer or prospect
wishes. |
Perhaps it is the end of the "business hours", the familiar
9:00am to 5:00pm schedule. To play ball in the global market there
are no business hours or business days, there are only "yes,
we're open" signs posted on virtual doors.
Are You Big Enough To Get In This Game?
Don't think that you are too small to play in the global market or
that you can only reach local clients because it will be the other
way around. Through the internet, clients worldwide will reach you.
Are you ready?
Since the birth of our blog page "Loop's
Enewsletter Marketing Spot" I've received more worldwide
eNewsletter subscribers in less time than those who have subscribed
to this eNewsletter from South Florida, where we are located.
The Concept of Effortless Connections
In the coming years, successful businesses will be effortlessly connected
to decision makers, top level executives and managers, the people
who determine whether to buy from you or not.
We can see the start of this with WiFi technologies (small wireless
networks) also known as "Hot Spots" in your local Starbucks.
And now soon to be WiMax technologies, or simply known as "being
able to wirelessly connect to the web in any large metropolitan area"
technologies.
Clients with handheld devices like "Blackberry and Palms"
soon will have full web and email capabilities. They'll have their
PC's in the palm of their hands. Anything you can do with your
PC, you'll be able to do with a handheld, except the handheld is far
easier to throw at someone.
Your Desktop In Your Hands
There are going to be more empty offices not from unemployment but
from employees working from anywhere. How are you going to visit them,
when they are not there?
I'm seeing this with our own clients; they are spending less and less
time in the office and more time traveling. Keeping in touch with
them is critical for us, I would assume it's critical for you to do
the same with your clients.
The Critical Communications Tools
What are the vital communications tools now?
|
eNewsletter:
To stay in touch and add value to the relationship. |
|
Blog
page: To maintain a weekly, if not daily, communication
with your prospects and clients. If they subscribe to your RSS
feed they'll receive your postings instantly. If not, they can
read them on your blog site. Keep in mind the RSS
technology will change the way we communicate. Instead of sending
information like we do by email, with RSS tech we will simply
post the message on the web and all those who desire the information
will receive it instantly in any device they desire to use to
communicate. |
|
Auto Responders: A system of prewritten email messages
that automatically respond to incoming emails. This is beyond
"out-of-office" replies. Well crafted, they can complete
a sale or troubleshoot a problem. Assuming you can't respond
within 48 hrs or are not available 24/7. |
|
Voice
Over Internet Protocol or VoIP: This is using your computer
as a telephone. If you have Messenger, Yahoo, Google Talk, Skype
or any other instant messaging software it's probably capable
of calling the people on your chat list. How long do you think
before companies have a VoIP addresses so you may contact them.
It saves them money on the 800 numbers and it saves you money
if you have to call companies that don't have a toll free number.
Soon eBay will be offering this service so that bidders can
talk to sellers over the internet at no charge. eBay just bought
Skype, more. |
|
Open
Mind Frame: For businesses to be successful, they will need
to foresee change and be able to adapt quickly to the ways customers
want to interact with them. |
The
Importance of Becoming Aware
The best way to start thinking about ways to facilitate and improve
the way you communicate with your clients, and vice versa, is to
take a look at the available communications tools in the market.
Then determine if they can improve and add value to your existing
relationships. But, more important, will they add to your future
bottom line? Every choice of product and service is one click away
and the only glue for customer retention is customer relations.

Bottom Line:
Communications
methods are changing, keep an open mind and an open eye as
to how your customers are interacting with you. If there is
anything you can do to improve that communication, strengthen
the relationship and save them time... do not hesitate, act
for it's a step in the right direction.
