Loop Consulting Group

Hello,
May. 2005, No.23

In this issue:
Just before the seminar started, I asked the speaker "With all due respect sir, how is a man your age involved in cutting edge internet communications tools?" and he said "Well, I've been involved since 1972, when I helped create the TCP/IP protocol for the Internet..." His answer got my undivided attention from there on.

Let's talk about the future of internet communications. Read on...

Don't forget next Sunday May
8th is Mother's Day.

All thanks to Anna Jarvis who wrote countless letters and lobbied congressmen so that in 1914, Pres. Woodrow Wilson could proclaim it a national holiday.

Blogs? What Are They And Should You Have One?

The seminar was titled "Bots, Blogs and News Aggregators" offered by author, speaker, consultant and Internet search expert Marcus P. Zillman, M.S., A.M.H.A. The seminar was part of a series of seminars presented by coach, author and speaker Bert Oliva.

At first glance "Bots, Blogs and News Aggregators" is not the most enticing theme for a seminar, but luckily for me I had a mild idea what the three words meant.

A quick walkthrough; Bots is short for robots, they are a computer programs that run automatically. A good example is the bots that Google uses that are programmed to search and index web pages. A news aggregator is a program that extracts news from a particular source and displays it for you. An example would be receiving CNN headlines as soon as they are published.

This brings me to the most interesting part of Marcus P. Zillman''s seminar, Blogs. A blog is short for web log. It is a webpage that publishes content, images, video and audio instantly. Blogs are usually very subject specific and reflect the views of the author.

An example of a "marketing blog" would be http://sethgodin.typepad.com

Ok, so? You ask. What are the benefits of a blog? I'll tell you.

Blogs will do the following:

1.
Drive traffic to your website. Since blogs are easier to search and are usually updated daily, they rank higher in web page search results.
2.
Establishes you as an expert. By publishing your opinions and experiences in your blog, readers come to view you as a source of knowledge in your particular industry. Very much like eNewsletters do. It gives your prospective clients a peek into your thoughts, personality and knowledge base.
3.
Free to set up and use. It takes 3 steps or 10 min. for a normal person (it took me 15 min.) to get your blog up and running. No technical expertise required. Try these blogging tools Blogger (no charge) or Typepad (paid).

The only problem with starting a blog is that they require content. Similar to an eNewsletter, in the sense that for the blog to succeed you must publish and publish often. For a blog author posting is almost a daily thing.

Part of my job as a relationship marketing consultant and part of the purpose of Emi (this eNewsletter, for the ones in the back) is to bring you information and tools that can help you achieve your business marketing and communications goals. And to show you that we talk-the-talk and walk-the-walk, for proof, visit Loop's eNewsletter Marketing Spot our newly created blog.

In the coming issues I'll update you as to how successful our blog has been as a prospecting and communications tool.

Meanwhile give blogging a try and let me know what you have learned as a blog author or blogthor (I just made up that word, I'm too blog happy, aren't I?).

As always, we are here to help. If you are interested in starting your own eNewsletter program contact us.

In Your Words...

In response from April's issue on "The Four Golden Rules of Writing Email Messages for Business Communication" you said:

"Good article on the email writing...very true..."

Martha E, Galindo, President GPI, Inc.

On "Subject Lines - Make sure the subject line clearly describes--in a short/direct manner--what the e-mail is about.  Subject lines like "I was thinking" mean absolutely nothing and are subject to be deleted upon receipt".
